There are fifty to choose from and it depends on your own personal interests, so I don’t know if there really is a 'best' one. I can recommend one without reservation: California! Upfront: I’m biased because it’s my home. But that aside, this place has a lot of the features that other states have, and all in one place: mountains, deserts, lakes and rivers, the coast which stretches on for hundreds of miles, and world-class cities full of culture. You can drive around the state; you can fly up and down; you can take the train from destination to destination. Start in the south, in LA or Santa Barbara, then take Amtrak California up to San Francisco and explore the city and the surrounding costal towns. You can even do some hiking. The options are endless. I hope I have talked California up enough that you’ll want to visit. The weather is warming up over here so it’s a good time to plan a trip!
